Scleral Lenses

Eyecare Associates of Lee's Summit

A scleral (or PROSE) lens is a very specially designed contact lens that rests painlessly on the scleral (white part) surface of the eye. It creates a tear-filled vault over a damaged or painful cornea. This tear filled reservoir treats a variety of eye conditions that do not respond to other forms of treatment.

Eyecare Associates of Lees Summit is a regional referral center for patients needing scleral lenses. Dr. Doug Herriott began working and training doctors in the use of specialty lenses during the 1990’s when he was an assistant clinical professor at the University of Kansas Medical Centers Department of Ophthalmology. Dr. Laura Nennig, who also specializes in scleral and specialty lenses joined the practice in 2013 and continues the practices tradition of leadership in the development of fitting techniques, designs and treatments with scleral lenses.

Our current state of the art practice in Lees Summit continues to fit patients, train doctors and do research in new designs and applications of scleral contact lenses. With one of the largest scleral practices in the Midwest they have treated hundreds of patients from Missouri, Kansas and surrounding states with these innovative devices.

Patient Services

Our staff prides themselves on the warm and compassionate care we deliver. We understand the pain and frustration patients often experience with their diseases. Our goal is to provide an excellent experience both medically and supportively through the entire process.
— Your Scleral Lens Team

Our treatments are designed to:

Reduce symptoms and support healing by restoring a healthy corneal surface

Improve blurry vision by masking surface corneal irregularities and transmitting a sharp image to the back of the eye

Prevent damage by protecting the cornea against the environment and eyelids
